Join Virtual Arizona Pride organizer and ASU professor David Boyles for a communal viewing and discussion of David France’s 2017 documentary The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson on Zoom.
The film tells the story of the famed activist, one of the key figures of the Stonewall era and co-founder of Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR), the first activist organization explicitly for trans people. And it also tells the story of Marsha’s friend Victoria Cruz, who continues to investigate Johnson’s mysterious 1992 death, which was ruled a suicide by New York police after a cursory investigation. The film not only introduces us to this important figure in LGBTQ+ history but also uses her story to highlight the ongoing epidemic of violence against trans women of color.
